Loose-Leaf Format
- Determine if the item is:
- Loose-leaf format (finite, no intent to update)
- Without sequential pagination

- Type of date fixed field = m
- Beginning date/ending date = [date]/9999

- Multi-volume loose-leaf sets (more than one volume) must be designated as non-circulating (DNC)!
- Single volume titles circulate
- Loose-leaf service
- Fixed and variable fields same as (B) above

- Special handling of subsequent editions
- Close out bibliographic record of earlier edition
- Supply value in ending date fixed field [date-ending date]

- If already closed, delete call number in OPR.
- If not closed, print out and give to Senior Acquisitions Clerk with following note:
New ed. rec'd -- please close OPR - Prepare piece(s) for bindery after verifying that all releases received were filed. Add note on printout for bindery that binders should be discarded and not counted:
Discard binders -- do not count.
Supplements
- Supplement that arrives with a new book:
- BISON bibliographic record needs 525 note for supplements (add, if not present). See Notes For Catalogers for examples. Most common form:
525 : : Kept up to date by supplements.
- Change the copy status from 1 to 2 on BISON copy holdings record.
- Call number on spine is set up as:
[base call number]
suppl.
[yr. of publication] - Record base volume and supplement on statistics slip. Softbound supplements are counted.
- Send to End Processing with base volume.
- First supplement received for a book that is already cataloged:
- Add 525 note to BISON bibliographic record to indicate supplement. Most common form:
525 : : Kept up to date by supplements.
NOTE: 525 note should be in bibliographic record only if supplement is in hand. - Change the copy status from 1 to 2 on BISON copy holdings record.
- Call number on spine is set up as:
[base number]
suppl.
[yr. of publication] - Record on statistics slip as 1 volume.
- Send to End Processing.

Pocket Parts
- Pocket part(s) that arrive(s) with a new book:
- Needs 525 note about pocket parts (add, if not present). See Notes For Catalogers for examples. Most common form:
525 : : Kept up to date by pocket parts. - Change the copy status from 1 to 2 on BISON copy holdings record.
- Record only base volume on statistics slip. Pocket parts are not counted.
- Write call number on upper left corner of pocket part(s).
- First pocket part(s) received for a book that is already cataloged:
- Add 525 note to BISON bibliographic record to indicate pocket part. Most common form:
525 : : Kept up to date by pocket parts.
