Law Library Carrels
Procedures
* Please note also Important Carrel Information for Summer and Fall 2008
Use of carrels is limited to currently enrolled Law Students. The following rules are to ensure equitable access to carrels for all Law Students. Please be advised that the following procedures and rules are subject to change as need arises.
A carrel key may be checked out at the Circulation Desk. You will need a SUNY ID card and your Law School mailbox number. If you do not have your SUNY ID card you will be asked to step aside until students with ID cards are helped.
Carrel keys may be signed out for one day at a time. Keys are due at closing on the same day. You will be assessed a fine of $5.00 per day for failure to return a key. If you lose a key, you will be assessed a replacement fee of $10.00.
Repeated failure to return a key will result in your being denied a key.
The automated key check-out system will not allow the Circulation Staff to provide information to Law Students concerning who has signed out a carrel.
When you temporarily leave your carrel, and when you leave for the day, please be sure that the door to the carrel is closed and locked to prevent unauthorized use of the room.
Carrels are for individual student use. Please be considerate of your fellow law students by leaving the carrel areas when you wish to converse with others. Please do not use cell phones in the carrels.
* Important Carrel Information for Summer and Fall 2008
The 7th floor of the Law Library is closed through the end of the fall semester for a roof replacement project. Floors 2 through 6 will remain open through the construction project. During this construction project we ask for your patience with aesthetics and noise conditions as this improvement is made. The Law Library arranged for law student use of a limited number of Lockwood Library study carrels for the summer and fall 2008 semesters. The carrels are not guaranteed to be quiet, are not secure, and are assigned for one semester at a time. There is no guarantee that every law student carrel request can be granted. Registration for carrels available over the summer is open as of April 15, 2008, and will end on May 23, 2008. Carrel assignment notification will take place during the week of May 26th.
