Computing at the University at Buffalo: Getting Started
Hello and welcome to the Law Library at the University at Buffalo. This is a brief guide to getting started with computing at UB.
The first step to getting online at UB is to get your UBCard from the UB Card Office in the Commons on the North Campus http://www.myubcard.com/ubcard/
With UB card in hand, you can now activate your UBITName.
What is a UBITName?
Your UBITName is a username which is assigned to you upon your admittance to UB. Every student, faculty, and staff member at UB has one.
Your UBITName will be your login to various UB sites. Also, it will serve as your name in your @buffalo.edu email address.
Okay, so what’s my UBITName?
You can find out your UBITName by going to one of the UB card Lookup Stations on campus. These machines are conveniently located at:
- The Lockwood Library second floor Cybrary http://libweb.lib.buffalo.edu/floorplans/lml/lmlmap2.htm
- The Capen Hall first floor Cybrary http://libweb.lib.buffalo.edu/floorplans/uglsel/uglmap1.htm
The Lookup Station will then produce a printout with your UBITName and your default password.
How do I change my default password?
Once you have your default password, access the following website and follow the instructions to select your desired password. http://ubit.buffalo.edu/ubitname/changepw.php
It is recommended that you create a secure password that is a combination of both letters and numbers.
Great, now how do I access my UB Email account?
Activate your UBIT mailbox by going to and following the instructions on: https://ldap.buffalo.edu/newuser.html
The Email@UB website will provide answers to many common questions, including passwords and forwarding mail. http://ubit.buffalo.edu/mail/
